The name Corolla has a rich and diverse history, spanning 12 generations, and has sold more than 50 million vehicles worldwide-making it one of the most successful model series ever.

Corolla was first born as a compact city car in 1966, and it is on sale as the needs of the times and regions continue to develop. According to Motorpress, the Corolla Cross is the first attempt at a crossover/SUV space, combining Corolla’s highly respected core product features, and the new body shape provides enhanced functionality and practicality.

The Corolla Cross is also of special significance to South Africa, as the model is produced locally at Toyota's long-term Prospectton plant in Durban. Therefore, Cross continued the tradition of producing Corolla in Mzansi, making it #ProudlySouthAfrican.

Ensuring that the manufacturing contract for this model is of great significance-not only has a direct impact on South Africa, but also on job creation, industry viability and economic support throughout Africa. To reinforce this, President Cyril Ramaphosa officially opened and approved the Corolla Cross production line on October 26, 2021.

Supporting "Cross" is Toyota's acclaimed TNGA platform. TNGA stands for Toyota's New Global Architecture (TNGA) and represents a modular platform that can support hatchback, sedan and SUV model series, such as C-HR, Prius, RAV4 and 12th-generation Corolla models.

Corolla Cross combines the eye-catching design language of Corolla cars and Hatch models with SUV styling to provide a harmonious design.

The interior space echoes its Corolla Hatch and Sedan brothers and sisters. Here, the designer pursues an elegant design with excellent ergonomics and takes up space. Corolla Cross has a premium feel with soft touch elements and stylish metal trim (depending on grade).

Since Corolla Cross is ready to bring Corolla into a "new era," it is important that the model includes a new energy philosophy. Recognizing this, we are proud to announce that the Corolla Cross includes traditional gasoline and hybrid gasoline-electric power systems. This also marks that Toyota will produce the first hybrid power system locally.

Both power units are specially used in conjunction with Toyota's latest generation of CVT gearboxes to improve powertrain efficiency and provide users with the convenience of automatic transmissions.

A three-tier strategy was adopted, using Toyota's familiar Xi, Xs, and Xr nomenclature (also found on Cross' Corolla and other Toyota passenger cars).

Corolla Cross is fully equipped-no matter which grade you choose. The standard fare includes the following:

All Corolla Cross models provide buyers with a comprehensive security package.

As mentioned earlier, the Corolla Cross uses two engine strategies (1.8-liter gasoline engine and super fuel-efficient 1.8-liter hybrid engine). This, combined with the three-level strategy mentioned earlier, produces a five-model matrix:
