On the contrary, extrinsic materials are those with ultra-hardness and other mechanical properties, which are determined by their microstructure rather than composition. An example of an extrinsic superhard material is nanocrystalline diamond called agglomerated diamond nanorods.

The Asia-Pacific region is the largest market with a share of more than 53%. According to product types, it can be divided into synthetic diamond and cubic boron nitride. The most common product is synthetic diamonds, with a share of more than 92%. In terms of application, it is widely used in stone and construction, abrasives, composite polycrystalline tools, etc. Stone and construction are the most widely used, accounting for more than 40%.
